Thus far, the journey of teaching myself graphic design has been a fun one.
Here are a few lessons I’ve learned in the past five days.
- I like the Steampunk style. I always wondered what it was about animals in top hats that I liked so much. But it’s not just that–the imaginative marriage between vintage and futuristic is right up my alley, not to mention, the color schemes and typeface.
- A myriad of techniques on Affinity Illustrator. Whether it’s been making an image texturized or look 3D, I’ve learned a lot of tips and tricks.
- I used to think that everybody had their “thing,” and I guess I felt like graphic design was already claimed by others. I’ve enjoyed allowing myself the freedom to try. That’s all I’m doing, really: trying.
Below is a design I’ve been fiddling around with. It highlights some areas in which I’d still like to grow, but overall, I’m happy with how it turned out (for now), and I was able to challenge myself in some unique ways.
Probably my biggest complaint (and challenge) was getting the whale to match the style of the balloon. I still don’t feel like it has the same depth and personality…I’d take any suggestions!
